XAO Honored at 148th Anniversary of Second Baptist Church
On Sunday, July 27, 2014 with more than 500 in attendance, the Chi Alpha Omega (XAO) graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated received not one but two awards for our service and partnership with Second Baptist Church (SBC) of Elgin.
The first award was for our service with the youth ministry. The three year partnership between XAO's Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) program and SBC's Giving Opportunities to Achieve Life Skills (G.O.A.L.S.) program proved invaluable to the youth ministry. The chapter received accolades for monthly workshops, the 2013 career fair and engaging students in community service.
Second Baptist presented awards during the church’s 148th anniversary. Gifts were presented to Feed Greater Elgin, Judson University and the Boys and Girls Club. A Partnership Award was presented to XAO for service to SBC and the community. Our exemplified service to Domestic Violence, Diabetes Awareness, SBC Health Fair, Thanksgiving Baskets Project, Black History Program, Tutoring and our innovative leadership style (bringing multiple organizations together to make a larger impact) was emphasized.
Chapter President, Diana Sweeny, was proud and humbled to received these awards on behalf of the hard work of each XAO member.
