Personal Statement
Gymnastics has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. That's when I took my first class at the local recreation center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Over the years since then, I have continued to progress and have learned to love the challenge, the burn, and the results of rigorous practice. I have experienced defeat and winning. I have been fearful and fearless. My fellow gymnasts are among my closest friends. Gymnastics is an integral part of who I am.
My high school does not have a gymnastics program. Though I was tempted to give up the sport in order to be involved in one of the school sanctioned programs, I made the decision as a freshman student to stick with gymnastics for a chance to compete at the collegiate level. I have spent the last 4 years envisioning myself competing and winning as a college athlete. Through this sport I have learned humility, resilience, commitment, and of course I have learned to balance my time, between school, family, friends, and gymnastics. During meet season, the scale always tips towards gymnastics. |
